Preview and Open Thread | Big 12 Men’s Tournament – Semifinals

The semifinals of the Big 12 Men’s Championship tournament from Kansas City continue tonight. Let’s do this!

Game #7:

Date: Friday, March 13th
Time: 6:00 pm
Teams: #1 Kansas (25-7, 13-5) vs #4 Baylor (24-8, 11-7)
Location: Sprint Center | Kansas City
TV/Stream: ESPN or ESPN2

First Regular Season Meeting: KU won 56-55

Second Regular Season Meeting: KU won 74-64

Tourney Preview: For Baylor Rico Gathers, Royce O’Neale, and Taurean Prince are the guys that win games for the Bears. They combined for 49 points together to beat West Virginia yesterday. Without Perry Ellis KU still pulled off a tough one against TCU, and they got 25 points from Kelly Oubre.

Ellis is still in question whether he will play or not against Baylor. For the Bears they will have to be on top of their game whether Ellis is healthy or not. KU is the better team and should knock off a really good Baylor team in the game tonight. KU will be ready for any of their stars to go off for 20+ points to take down the Bears.

Game #8:

Date: Friday, March 13th
Time: 8:00 pm
Teams: #2 Iowa State (24-8, 12-6) vs #3 Oklahoma (23-9, 12-6)
Location: Sprint Center | Kansas City
TV/Stream: ESPN or ESPN2

First Regular Season Meeting: OU won 94-83

Second Regular Season Meeting: ISU won 77-70

Tourney Preview: ISU had to dig up a comeback against UT in the tournament on a buzzer beater from Monte Morris. Georges Niang dropped in 22 points, and the hero Morris had 24. Oklahoma came back from a halftime deficit against OSU to win convincingly with Buddy Hield hitting for 22 points.

These two teams are both identical in they don’t rely only on their star players, but need the backing of their whole team to win games. It should be a very competitive game, and each team has traded wins in the regular season. May the best team of the night get the victory because it is going to be a matchup against two teams that portrait talent and success on the court. Get ready for fireworks… and whomever comes out with the W will be pumped to win the whole Big 12 tourney.
