Okafor to Join Texas Tech. Wreck’Em 24/7’s Daniel Paulling writes that Texas Tech will receive a graduate transfer from Emeka Okafor (6-5/325), an offensive lineman from Houston. I think this information has been out with the subscription folks for a while so everyone who pays for a subscription can laugh at you. Anyway, Okafor should provide some much needed depth at the offensive line and it feels pretty good to get Paul Stawarz and Okafor at this time when the depth is really low. The hope would be that Okafor would be a depth guy and maybe not start, but you need depth guys.

Gibbs Nees to Work His Magic. AthlonSports David Fox writes that defensive coordinator David Gibbs hopes he can work his turnover magic sooner rather than later. Gibbs says that he needs for his guys to do their jobs and not try to do too much:

“That’s what happens on these bad defenses,” Gibbs said. “You got guys trying to do too much and then all heck breaks loose. I see it on good defenses. But the good defenses have good players behind the players making the mistakes. The problem at some of these places is that you don’t have the erasers. I’m not saying they were doing it last year, but they’re not going to do it this year.”

Comparing Big 12 Salaries. Our friends over at Land Grant Gauntlet compiled the salaries that we discussed yesterday. There’s a lot of information there and Texas Tech is sitting 4th overall in terms of staff salaries (the head coach and assistant coaches).

reddit Phone Wallpaper. If you’re into reddit then they’ve done some phone wallpaper for the Power Five Conference teams. Here’s Texas Tech’s:

Miscellaneous. DMN’s Tommy Magelssen finishes up his series, I think he’s finished, on the special team . . . 24/7 Sports’ Kevin Laherty summarizes the coaching changes in the Big 12 . . . Cal’s receiver coach was popped for solicitation of a prostitute last week and was one of the main recruiters for Carlos Strickland.
