The Player Speaks: Wreck’Em 24/7’s Daniel Paulling talked to Armstrong, who said that he likes Texas Tech’s program:

“I really like the program,” he said. “I’ve been following the program probably since I was born. I follow all the Texas college programs. Texas Tech really stood out. They’ve got a good team down there.”

Scouting Report: I really feel like we’re watching an unfinished project here. There’s plenty to like, but I think Armstrong has a ways to go as an athlete and as a cornerback. The best thing that Armstrong has going for him is his size, which you can’t coach. Just look at this weekend’s NFL Draft where you have almost every “name” receiver is over 6’0″ and that’s a trend that’s going to continue. So the best thing about Armstrong is his size. We don’t know much about him otherwise, as we don’t know his 40-time and there aren’t a ton of highlights of Armstrong at cornerback. If we’re looking at Armstrong as a cornerback, we should be looking for a guy that can bump his receiver off the line of scrimmage, exhibit some quickness in making reads on passes, exploding ot the ball, anticipating the pass and supporting the run. We saw bits and pieces of those, but I don’t think we’ve got enough video to really evaluate Armstrong. I do feel confident that Armstrong needs to be stronger as he has to do a better job of not being blocked at the line of scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how Armstrong progresses at DeSoto.

As an aside, this also feels like a Emmett Jones situation. Yes, apparently Kevin Curtis was in on Armstrong, but I’d bet a dollar that Jones had more that just a little something to put Armstrong on Texas Tech’s radar. There’s only a handful of people who will know the DFW area better, in particular the Dallas area schools, than Jones and I’m more than willing to give Jones a lot of leeway in terms of who he thinks is worthy of a scholarship spot. Personally, I think Armstrong has a ton of work to do over the summer.

Neiman, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
