Tennis

Soares to Sweet 16. I feel bad in that I had no idea that the men’s individual tennis was playing individually as Felipe Soares defeated Tin Ostijic of Wichita State to advance to the Sweet 16, which menas that he also receives All-American Honors. Congrats!

Golf

Texas Tech to Start NCAA Championship Journey. The women’s golf team is set to start the NCAA Championships in Bradenton, Florida, and they tee off today, I think around noon, to start their run. Head coach JoJo Robertson is excited for the opportunity:

“It’s obviously very exciting,” Robertson said. “This is something I’ve waited, seems like forever for, and we’ve certainly tried to do each season since I’ve been here. Just to finally see all the hard work the girls have done pay off, is really a good feeling and its fun to see how excited they are about it.”

Track And Field

Texas Tech Athletes to Compete in NCAA Outdoor Championships. Texas Tech will send 29 athletes to the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round, which will take place next weekend, May 28th-30th, in Austin, Texas.

Carson Receives Honor. Congrats to Hannah Carson as she was named the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Female Performer of the Year!

Baseball

Baseball Defeats TCU, to Face Baylor Today. Enter Corey Taylor, the best pitcher in the NCAA, who gets the start against one of the best pitchers in the Big 12, Preston Morrison, and whipped up on TCU, 8-1 (recap and box score). Taylor pitched 5 innings, allowing only 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. Johnathan Tripp pitched 3 frames, allowing 1 hit and striking out 3, while Parker Mushinski finished up the game. It was a sterling performance by Taylor, who leads the NCAA in ERA. The bats for Texas Tech were sterling as well, as Morrison was knocked out after only 3.1 innings, and started the game 3 runs in the first inning. Texas Tech only had 11 hits, but they made them count, especially at the top of the order, where Cory Raley was 3-4 and Eric Gutierrez was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Freshman Michael Davis was 3-4 with an RBI at the back-end of the lineup.

Texas Tech faces Baylor at 3:15 pm today and I’ve got a short, but totally awesome preview forthcoming. Win or go home.

Basketball

Davis Signs With Texas Tech. Via Wreck’Em 24/7’s Daniel Paulling coveted power forward Shawntrez Davis has signed with Texas Tech. I’ll have a profile on Davis later today.

Football

Linebacker and Secondary Positional Rankings. I think I missed the linebacker rankings, but ESPN had their linebacker and their defensive back rankings. They had Texas Tech at #6 as far as linebackers and #8 for the defensive backs.

Freshmen Impact. Texas Football’s Mike Craven has a list of Big 12 impact freshmen and includes Breiden Fehoko.
