The Morning Stake: The Big 12 Wants to Outlaw Hostile Environments

The Big 12 wants to outlaw hostile environments? Yeah, for real. Plus, golf is set for their NCAA run and track and field sends seven to Eugene after day one of the Austin regional.

Lightning Strikes. TTURed of Totally Texas Tech has some terrific shots of the sunset and lightning storm and he was on the 9th floor of the parking garage.

Golf

Let’s Do This. The men are set for the NCAA Championships after playing a practice round at Concessions Golf Course in Bradenton, Florida. If you want to follow along at home, here is your live scoring link and make sure and leave comments here as well.

Track and Field

Texas Tech Sending 7 to NCAA Championships on Day 1. This is just terrific and huge for Texas Tech as they are sending 7 players to the NCAA Championships after day one of the Austion Regional. Maybe the most unbelievable part is that Texas Tech is sending three, yes three, student-athletes to compete in the high jump, as we all knew that JaCorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins would likely make the cut, but Coronado freshman Trey Culver won a jump-off, clearing 7-2.5. Here is Culver making that jump:

If you watch the second video, you can tell the kid is just beaming.

Also making the national meet is Kole Weldon in the discus, Jerome Wilson in the long jump and on the ladies side of things, Le’Tristan Pledger and Gionna Jackson are headed to Eugene in the long jump.

Basketball

Trae Young is Good. If you ever wanted a Texas Tech basketball legacy to commit to Texas Tech, it would be from 2017 PG Trae Young who is already one of the best players in the country, is the son of former Texas Tech basketballer Rayford Young, and has offers from just about every place:

Soccer

Texas Tech Signs New Zealander. Texas Tech and Tom Stone have signed New Zealand native Lauren Dabner and will be a freshman for the 2015 season.

Football

Ranking the Uniforms. ESPN’s Jake Trotter has ranked the uniforms and you can expect there to mayhem as a result. Lucky for you, Texas Tech’s all-blacks is #3, right behind UT’s all-whites and OU’s crimson-white-white. Texas Tech also has some of the worst uniforms according to Trotter, and I agree, being the “Lone Star” the “Never Quit” and the “Masked Rider” oversized logo from last year (he picked the black helmet, but you could also go with the ombre).

Giles and Akamnonu Ready. RaiderPower’s Alyssa Chrisope has short interviews with IR Jonathon Giles and OL Madison Akamnonu so go check them out.

We Don’t Want an Environment That’s Too Hostile. In an absolute stunner, the Big 12 will give Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby the ability to punish teams that repeatedly show controversial plays. This isn’t a prohibition against showing controversial plays, but teams just can’t show them that much. This is not a joke or an article from the Onion.
