Campus Photos.

New Photos. Friend of the blog, Totally Texas Tech has some new campus photos and with all of the rain, the campus looks great, plus progress on the campus beautification project.

Track and Field

Speight Named Big 12 Track and Field Spring Scholar Athlete of the Year. Congrats to Montene Speight who has been named as the Big 12 Track and Field Spring Scholar Athlete of the Year! Speight ran the 400 meter dash and carries a 4.0 in political science.

Texas Tech Adds Assistant Coach. Texas Tech has added a new assistant coach in Ken Harden, from Florida State, who was a hurdler back in his day, but also coaches sprints.

Baseball

Gutierrez Back to Home Run Derby. Pretty cool as first baseman Eric Gutierrez will compete in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby at 7:30 on July 2nd. Gutierrez set the record last year when he hit 52 home runs last year.

Football

Most Indispensable. ESPN’s Brandon Chatmon writes that Le’Raven Clark is the team’s most indispensable player and I think that’s the right choice, but maybe I’d also go with Pete Robertson. I think Texas Tech could fill the void at left tackle if something were to happen to him, but there’s really no one that could fill that spot to the level that Robertson plays.

Speaking of Clark, he was named the third team All-American by Athlon Sports.

Recruiting Overview. DMN’s Tommy Magelssen takes an overall view of the Texas Tech recruiting class, addressing the biggest need and the best commit and what the class still lacks. Magelssen writes that the class still needs defensive backs and I think that to an extent, but I think I’d still say that defensive line needs to addressed even more, simply because there are 16 or so defensive backs currently on scholarship in Lubbock and they’re all young, while defensive line next year is going to be problematic even though there are still four players already committed.

Miscellaneous. Red Raider Sports’ Drew Kohnle has his Q&A with incoming freshman Broderick Washington so check that out . . .
