Recruiting on the Plains: Ty Thomas Excited About Offer

Basketball

Herard Down to Four. Schnider Herard (6-10/255) from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano is set to decide among his final four teams, Kansas, Texas Tech, Mississippi State and Purdue. It’s a bit crazy that Texas Tech is in the mix. Herard is predicted to pick Mississippi State according to 24/7 Sports. I typically tend to be hesitant to put much faith in those things, but when it is 100%, then that’s usually a pretty good sign. Herard is picking on Wednesday (that’s today and there’s a pretty good chance that he will have decided by the time this is posted).

Oliver Has Texas Tech in Top Three. According to TigerNet 2017 SG A.J. Oliver has Texas Tech in his final three, along with Clemson and College of Charleston. Oliver averaged 21.6 points, 5 boards and shot 36% from beyond the three-point line last year. Oliver’s mom is the head coach at Clemson and Oliver will be deciding in December.

Thomas Excited About Offer. Red Raider Sports’ Drew Kohnle talked to newly offered safety Ty Thomas, you know, the guy who has Zach Thomas as an uncle and Bart Thomas is his father and played safety for Texas Tech. Oklahoma State offered Thomas a couple of days ago as well. Here’s Thomas:

IN HIS WORDS: “My coaches called me in, and I called coach Kingsbury and he gave me the offer over the phone,” he said. “I was ecstatic. I have loved Tech since I was little, so I was pretty excited. I was raised a Tech fan. Coach (David) Gibbs and coach (Eric) Morris also DMed me on Twitter to tell me congratulations.”

Scout Spotlights. Scout is doing these profiles where they have the player talk and include highlights. they’ve got one for a few Texas Tech commits, DE Houston Miller, OL Giovanni Pancotti, OL Zach Adams and QB Jett Duffey. The thing that I was not aware of is that his high school team, Lake Ridge Mansfield, is 8-0 and Duffey has yet to throw an interception:

As a senior in 2015, Duffey has hit his stride on the field. He has the Eagles off to an 8-0 start and has been putting up big numbers along the way. He has completed 75-of-124 passes for 1,243 yards and 14 touchdowns and has rushed for 862 yards and seven scores. His most impressive stat line however is his ball protection. He has yet to throw his first interception.

Visiting for the OSU Game.

Deaton on His Visit. Red Raider Sports Adrian Martin recaps 2017 OL Dawson Deaton (6-6/27), high school teammate of Jack Anderson:

It was awesome. The atmosphere there is great. It was probably the loudest game I’ve been to. I had a good time talking to the coaches and getting to learn more about the school.

Miscellaneous. Red Raider Sports’ Drew Kohnle writes that Texas Tech is keeping in touch with Houston commit, CB Ka’Darian Smith, although a visit isn’t planned, hey may be interested in visiting Texas Tech at some point . . .
