Texas Tech will hit the road for the first game of the year, facing Sam Houston State tonight at 6:30 pm. The Bearkats are 0-4 on the year, losing their opening series to Louisiana-Lafayette (one of Texas Tech’s opponents this weekend) for the first three games and then losing their first home game, 8-5, to UTSA. This is really the first leg in a four game stretch where Texas Tech will then head to Houston this weekend to play at Minute Maid Park and take on Houston, Lafayette and Arkansas.

Texas Tech is starting Gingery, one of the relief pitchers from this weekend. I think Gingery had one of the roughest outings of any of the relief pitchers, and took the lone loss for the weekend. I’m always interested to see how Tim Tadlock manages his pitching staff, especially young pitchers.

Right now, Texas Tech is hitting very well, after just one series (small sample size) as Stephen Smith and Eric Gutierrez, along with Tanner Gardner, are ll hitting above .500 this early season.
