Women’s Tennis Takes on TCU. The ladies open Big 12 play against TCU at McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock today, first serve is set for 2:00 pm.
Texas Tech Drops Baylor in Game 1. A standout pitching effort from freshman Martin Davis results in a 5-0 win over the Baylor Bears on Friday night and is the first freshman pitcher to earn a win in a Big 12 opener in Texas Tech history.
Clarity at the Inside Receiver Positions. RRS’s Mike DuPont talked with offensive coordinator Eric Morris about the receiver positions and essentially laid out the competition at each inside spot:
“Cameron Batson will start at ‘H’, behind him will be [DeQuan Bowman] and [Keke Coutee] will compete,” said Morris before the first practice. “With Jakeem leaving – the best one of those three is going to start. Cam is the guy who I thought came on at the end of the year last year, did some good things for us, he’s had an incredible offseason.
“So I think it’s Cam’s job to lose right now with those guys right behind him.”
“Jonathan Giles, [Donta Thompson] and Zach Austin will all be competing at the ‘Y’ position right now,” Morris said. “I know what Ian Sadler can do. He’s been a consistent chain-mover for us, really tough kid that blocks; unselfish player that gets the team motto we’re trying to push.”
I think we’ve seen hints of this already, but this really does lay it out as to which player is where. I mentioned yesterday that if Devin Lauderdale comes back, there is the thought that he’ll move inside rather than stay outside so that just adds even more competition.
