Texas Tech announced yesterday that Kirby Hocutt is to return as the College Football Playoff Chair in 2017, which means that this will be his final year to have this title.

Austin McCarther a cornerback from Sam Houston State, has decided to transfer to Texas Tech. McCarther (6-1/180) is originally from Lake Ridge Mansfield and was a 2-star athlete coming out of high school. McCarther wasn’t offered by any Power Five or mid-major programs, but schools like SFA and such. I’d guess that McCarther will be a preferred walk-on to start and see if he can earn a scholarship. Also, Lake Ridge is the same high school as Jett Duffey.

Coaches on the road.

Miscellaneous . . . Texas and Tom Herman are having some issues. Yesterday it was rreported by Brian Davis at the AAS that Herman has told Texas parents to be positive about the team on social media and not to speak with reporters, which is great because adults love being told what to do (it would seem better to be a positive influence and then parents will probably have good things to say). Additionally, SAEN’s Mike Finger reports that the Texas AD had to release a statement about the hiring of a former Art Briles’ apologist, Casey Horny. Horny was one of those guys on Twitter who routinely supported Briles and you wonder why Herman felt the need to hire a guy that was going to cause issues (especially since he isn’t even a position coach or a coordinator), but here he is and here’s the AD defending that hire . . .
