Campus Photos

Friend of the blog, TTURed at Totally Texas Tech has some terrific new campus photos, including some great photos of the new field at Jones AT&T Stadium as well as updates on the Sports Performance Center.

A Red Raider, Dallas Webster, that I’ve been emailing back and forth with, mainly about blogging and how that all works, has developed an app for some of you golfing guys and gals, called PocketPar. I’m not a golfer at all so I haven’t tested it, but here’s an explanation and if you’re interested, give it a shot and make sure and tell your friends if you like it.

You want data? We’ve got data. We can twist and manipulate it in any way you need for you to find the path to get better. There is a reason PGA Tour players have a stats guy to keep them focused on the right things for improvement.

We are your stat guy.

Someone is going to call me crazy to write that Jordan Brangers is going to have as big of an impact on the Big 12 as Trae Young, but the dude can shoot like few I’ve seen. Brangers was 14 of 19 from the floor including 10 of 15 from the three-point line. Brangers is going to be a revelation for the Big 12.

ESPN ranks the Big 12 positions and they have the Texas Tech special teams 9th overall:

9. Texas Tech: The Red Raiders bring back kicker Clayton Hatfield, who missed just one of 14 field goals in 2016, and punter Michael Barden. Cameron Batson is back, too, to return punts, and Keke Coutee could help fill a vacancy on kickoff returns left by Reginald Davis. The problem is, Tech performed poorly in coverage a year ago; Barden struggled with consistency; and the returns weren’t productive either.

24/7 Sports’ Travis Haney ranks all of the Power 5 programs and has the Texas Tech program at 48th overall:

Well liked as he is, heat is building for coach Kliff Kingsbury (24-26 entering his fifth season.) It’s a bit of a cautionary tale for any staff that would consider the job: You’re expected to annually compete in the Big 12 despite significantly worse facilities — and the fact that you’re five hours from Dallas.

That isolation makes recruiting brutally difficult. Who is taking unofficial visits to Lubbock? (Wisely, Kingsbury has included a spring scrimmage stop at the Cowboys facility in Frisco.)

AD Kirby Hocutt, the College Football Playoff chair, is widely respected as an up-and-comer – which makes you wonder how long he’ll remain at Tech. He’s working hard to improve facilities, including a desperately needed indoor facility. Anyone who has experienced weather changes – including dust storms – in West Texas knows that.

The Comeback has their mock draft and I haven’t seen Patrick Mahomes taken this early, 13th overall to Arizona:

The Cardinals need a quarterback to replace Carson Palmer, and Bruce Arians values arm talent most in a passer. Mahomes is a first-round worthy passer and will be taken in the top-40 picks.
