Before we get to the game . . .

Texas Tech defeated New Mexico State 16-1 yesterday in their home opener (recap | box score). Freshman John Henry Gonzalez got the start and the win, going 5.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and striking out 5. Parker Mushinski, Jacob Patterson, Caleb Kilian and Andrew Davis all pitched in relief and didn’t allow a hit or a run.

Orlando Garcia was the player of the game as he was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs, including a grand slam, and 7 RBI. Overall, the offense had 18 hits, including multi-hit games by Josh Jung, Connor Beck and Grant Little.

Texas Tech hosts Cal on Friday for a four-game series with the first game set for Friday at 2:00 pm, doubleheader on Saturday and the final game on Sunday.
