A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about the sellout and some information on the season tickets sold:

Coming off a 5-7 season, Tech’s season ticket sales dropped from 34,577 in 2016 to 29,717 this sesaon. Season-ticket sales for this season included 27,737 renewals for a renewal rate of 80.2 percent and 1,980 new season-ticket sales. Tech sold 33,586 season tickets in 2015, then had 29,323 renewals, a rate of 87.2 percent, for the 2016 season.

Robust student turnout boosted both of Tech’s first two crowds this season. Tech normally reserves about 12,500 seats for its students. For Eastern Washington, 10,873 students showed up, and for Arizona State, 11,275 came out.

A-J Media’s Don Williams has a notebook of items, including Douglas Coleman’s versatility, being able to play both corner and safety, Zach Barnes and how he’s performed this year at defensive end and how 80 former players from the 1961-69 seasons will be on hand for a reunion this weekend. Here’s a bit on Barnes:

He also gets coaching from his dad in addition to what he receives from defensive line coach Terrance Jamison. Zachary Barnes, also a defensive lineman, was a San Diego Chargers ninth-round draft pick in 1984 after a career at Alabama State.

“That’s my hero growing up,” Barnes said. “Even before I started playing football, I wanted to be just like him. I call him every game right after the game and we talk about the game and about life, and he’s a real good pop. He’s a real good man.”
