Texas Tech Basketball

A-J Media’s Carlos Silva, Jr. writes how Texas Tech is expected to sign two players as part of the early signing period, which is to start today and go through November 15th. those two players are South Plains College wing Deshawn Corprew (6-5/215) and Findlay Prep (Nevada) point guard Kyler Edwards (6-4/195). Here’s head coach Steve Green on Corprew:

“I’d like to call him a no-position player because he can play all five positions,” Green said of Corprew’s talents. “He can also advance the ball, drive it and finish strong. On top of that, he’s a good shooter. He’s only going to get better and better as he plays more. He’s blessed with athleticism.”

Work has been extremely busy, but if I can post something about their official signing, I’ll try, if not, I’ll try to do it later this evening.

A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about S Jah’Shawn Johnson, who looks forward to the annual game in the DF-Dub as well as how he has improved this year:

“I’ve definitely progressed in my man coverage,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve been targeted as much this year as I have been in the past. I credit that to our coaching staff for getting us out there and doing all the drills we do in man coverage.

“That was one of the things I wanted to focus on the most, and limit my missed tackles. I’m pretty sure I’m in the single digits in that, which is a good thing with the way we play defense and the opportunities that I have to tackle.”

A-J Media’s Nicholas Talbot has a notebook and talked to head coach Kliff Kingsbury about the back-up quarterback situation, including how McLane Carter is the #2 signal caller, while Jett Duffey and Colt Garrett have been swapping back and forth in scout team and Duffey has played some receiver as well, but that quarterback is his position:

Duffey, a redshirt freshman, was suspended from Tech for the spring and summer semesters after a Texas Tech Title IX hearing panel sided with a woman who alleged Duffey had sex with her twice when she was too incapacitated to consent.

“You know, Jett missing that time, he’s still trying to catch up,” Kingsbury said. “But when Nic graduates it will be a deal where there’s going to be open competition and the best guy will come out of it.”

Also noted is that LB Jordyn Brooks will be back for the game as will DT Nick McCann and RB Desmond Nisby while D.J. Polite-Bray has left the team to focus on his grades and graduating.

RedRaiderSports’ Brandon Soliz has takeaways from the media availability yesterday of WR Keke Coutee, DE Eli Howard, LB Christian Taylor and LT Travis Bruffy. Make sure and check it out.
