Recruiting on the Plains: Michael LaBarre Commits to STP. Good news everyone! Our favorite recruiting guru Michael LaBarre, who has been working with the Avalanche Journal for the past few years, has joined us here at Staking The Plains. Michael was with us right before the switch to STP and he got an offer he just couldn’t refuse with the A-J. I encouraged him to take that offer and always let him know that I’d love for him to return. Here we are and today is a good day.

Lady Raider Basketball

As some of you have pointed out, Recee’ Caldwell hasn’t played since Candi Whitaker was terminated (I think this is right).

Continue to Rise. With Saturday’s win over Kansas State, and a bunch of teams losing over the weekend, Texas Tech continues to rise up the rankings, including CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish, who has Texas Tech at #5 overall and Oklahoma is up tomorrow night at Lloyd Noble.

Brumfield Decommits. As expected, Devin Brumfield decommitted from Texas Tech yesterday afternoon. This was somewhat expected after Jabbar Juluke left for Louisiana. If you are thinking that Brumfield is likely going to follow, well, the magic crystal ball says that Brumfield will likely land at either Missouri or Utah. That’s not exactly the Louisiana and not at all spots that I expected. I’ll have some options at running back later this morning.

Davis to Incarnate Word. I couldn’t find the report on FootballScoop, but The Statesman reports that offensive graduate assistant Jordan Davis will be the receivers coach at Incarnate Word, joining Eric Morris.

Briles to Speak at AFCA. In a disgusting move of coaches trying to make the head coach that allowed a bunch of rapists into Baylor and turn a blind eye, the American Football Coaches Association is permitting Art Briles to speak at their annual convention. The guy in charge is saying that they’re hoping to learn what not to do, the problem with this is that Briles has never admitted that he did anything wrong.

Houston Hires Baby Briles. In an attempt to bury this news on Saturday during some NFL games and whatnot, Houston and Major Applewhite hired Kendal Briles and the offensive line coach that was at Baylor at the time. Briles allegedly told recruits when they were visiting Baylor, “Do you like white girls?” as a selling point for Baylor and was also there the entire time that his father Art oversaw a program that seemingly endorsed sexual assault because they did nothing about it. Congrats Houston.
