Texas Tech Football

Hey! A non-11:00 a.m. game for Kansas! I can’t remember the last time this happened.

A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about the location of the Baylor-Texas Tech game and Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said that they are simply waiting on the 2019 schedule to make a determination as to whether to play the game in Arlington or move the game back to the respective campuses:

β€œWe’re just waiting for the Big 12 Conference to give us our ’19 schedule,” Hocutt said, β€œand I think that will determine what we do with a neutral-site game with Baylor going forward. If it remains on Thanksgiving weekend, then we will look to continue to play in Arlington.

β€œIf the Big 12 Conference gives us our ’19 schedule and Baylor is not in that Thanksgiving weekend window, I think we’d be looking at moving it back to campus.”

I get why the game is at Arlington during the Thanksgiving weekend for each institution, lack of attendance, but I’d love to see this game return to the respective campuses. I dislike going to Jerry World personally and haven’t gone since the first game. It’s about an hour drive for me and I still can’t get motivated to go because I dislike that place that much.

Also mentioned is that Hocutt said that Texas Tech has an exemption for the 2021 season as he has been unable to find a Power Five non-conference opponent. They’re still working on it, but right now they have an exemption.

A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about quarterback availability and we’ll get to this in Quote Board, but for now, it appears that Texas Tech is hoping to have all three quarterbacks available for the TCU game and TCU hopes to have Shawn Robinson available, although he may not start.

Miscellaneous . . . SB Nation’s Bill Connelly has a new way to look at strength of schedule and has Texas Tech with the 19th toughest schedule thus far . . . Heartland College Sports’ Pete Mundo has his Big 12 power rankings and has Texas Tech 6th overall, one spot behind 2-3 Iowa State because Iowa State beat Oklahoma State, which Texas Tech did earlier in the year . . .
