Texas Tech Tennis

I hate to admit this, but I have no problem asking questions about something when I’m ignorant about things, but can someone explain the fall tennis schedule? Is this just a bunch of tournaments that somewhat determine the spring preseason ranking? I get the spring schedule as the results are usually against singular opponents or conference opponents. Just not sure how much these fall tournaments “count” towards something. Does the team have a “record” right now? I don’t know why I’m using so many “quotes”.

Texas Tech Baseball

Texas Tech Basketball

The Mercury’s Ryan Black talked to head coach Chris Beard about Patrick Mahomes at the Big 12 Media Days (which were held in Kansas City) and what Mahomes has done for Texas Tech:

“He’s such a huge ambassador for Texas Tech,” Beard said during his time at the Big 12’s men’s basketball media day Wednesday at the Sprint Center. “He’s a guy who always goes above and beyond, not only for football, but our university basketball. He came to our NCAA Tournament games last year in Dallas, for sure. And I want to say he was planning on coming to Boston, but something popped up. I still get texts from him from time to time.”

RedRaiderSports’ Brandon Soliz writes about guard Matt Mooney and what Beard wants him to bring to the team:

Beard is challenging Matt to be more of a leader on and off the court. One way he wants him to do is be more vocal.

Matt said it’s going to be a tough job but there’s no one he trusts and learns more from than coach Beard.

“I just need to try and find my role quick,” Matt said. “I need to try and be the best I can be. Coach told me he doesn’t want me to go out and try to score 30 every night. That’ll help but he just wants me to do my best every night. He wants me to help my teammates out when they need it.”

Texas Tech Football

A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about defensive back Douglas Coleman not getting a turnover until last week:

Thanks to the takeaway, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound junior from Zachary, Louisiana, took out some frustration after missing multiple chances in the Red Raiders’ 17-14 victory the week before at TCU.

“It was just in due time,” Coleman said. “I just stayed with the course. I didn’t get overwhelmed for not making the plays I know I should have made. I knew they were going to come to me eventually.”

Also noted is that Texas Tech will dress and suit up fullback Tyler Carr, who the staff wanted to redshirt, but has three games he can play with Connor Killian out with a foot injury and this is where this four-game redshirt rule gets interesting.
