Ultramarathon Update. Just to give all of you a heads-up, my ultramarathon is on Saturday so I’ll be out of pocket for pretty much the entire weekend. I don’t know that we’ll be able to update the baseball series thread as the staff is pretty busy this weekend (Keith will be in Frisco for the Frisco Classic). Dan will take care of the post-game thoughts after the TCU game.

Big 12 Coach of the Year Candidates. Rivals’ Eric Bossi considered the candidates for the Big 12 coach of the year and Bossi thinks it should be Chris Beard:

Bossi’s analysis: After making an Elite Eight run last season, Beard and the Red Raiders lost an awful lot and weren’t even picked to finish in the top half of the Big 12. Here they are near the end of the season with a chance to end Kansas’ 14-year streak atop the conference. Beard has helped develop sophomore Jarrett Culver into a potential All-American. Scott Drew also deserves praise for the job he’s done with a very short-handed Baylor team.

You all won’t like reading this, but I think Baylor’s Scott Drew should be considered too, his team was picked to finish 9th overall, they’re currently just 1 game behind Texas Tech and Kansas State in the Big 12 standings and had a pretty terrific comeback against Texas last night. Baylor has a very tough remaining schedule, at Kansas State and at Kansas, so they probably won’t finish just 1 game back, but you never know. Acknowledging that someone else has done a really good job of coaching doesn’t mean that I don’t think that Beard shouldn’t win it. And truthfully, I think that whoever wins the Big 12 should probably get it because if Bruce Weber wins the Big 12 then he should get it. If it’s Weber and Beard that do it, then they should probably share it as co-coaches of the year.
