Culver to Announce Basketball Decision. On Thursday afternoon, Jarrett Culver will announce his basketball decision, my thought is that Culver will declare for the NBA Draft and that’s my hope. Don’t get me wrong I loved watching Culver this year and he was the Big 12 player of the year, but when you’re projected as a top 10 pick in the NBA Draft (see below) we should all be carrying Culver on our shoulders out of town so that he can start his career and make the money he so richly deserves. For me personally, I’d feel selfish thinking that Culver needs to stay because he doesn’t. He’s ready. And Thursday is a celebration for him, for Lubbock, for Texas Tech, and for Chris Beard and the entire coaching staff.

Mock Draft. SB Nation’s Ricky O’Donnell projects that Culver will go 4th to the Chicago Bulls:

Culver was the leading man on a Texas Tech team that went on a shocking run to the national championship game in the NCAA tournament. He’s a long and strong guard who plays who plays a high-IQ game on both ends of the floor. Culver lacks takeover scoring ability and elite athletic pop, but offers a well-rounded and versatile skillset on the wing. He should influence winning even if his stats don’t jump off the page.

The biggest question for Culver is his outside shooting ability after hitting only 30 percent of his threes and 70 percent of his free throws. His ball handling, passing ability, and efficient finishing at the rim should allow him to have success offensively even as his jump shot develops.

Adams Interviews with Southern Miss. Sun Herald’s Patrick McGee reports that Texas Tech assistant coach Mark Adams has interviewed for the head coaching position at Southern Miss:

The USM search committee spoke with four candidates in New Orleans, the Sun Herald has learned.

Southeastern Louisiana head coach Jay Ladner and USM assistant Clarence Weatherspoon sat down with the search committee during the morning sessions. Former Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy and Texas Tech assistant Mark Adams were scheduled for afternoon interviews.

Coaches were informed that a couple of them may be called back for more discussions on Wednesday.

A new head coach could be announced by Thursday.
