Texas Tech adds their first tight end commitment for the 2020 class in Wellington’s John Holcomb.

Holcomb is a nice athlete. Really terrific size and he’s not the sharpest route runner, that’s really not important when you get lined up against a linebacker that’s trying to cover him, it’s already a mismatch. He’s very fluid, not necessarily fast. His Hudl profile says that he runs a 4.68 40-yard dash time and that’s probably pretty close to accurate. He’s got nice hands, catches the ball well with them and not his body. At Wellington, the offense does a nice job of putting him all over the field, from tight along the line to split side and I think that’s how Texas Tech intends on lining up their tight ends. I think this is a pretty solid get for Wells & Co., he’s nearly a top 100 recruit in Texas and with a decent senior year, that could certainly improve. If the strength and conditioning staff continues their blistering pace of developing players, Holcomb adding 30 or so pounds doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult given his frame. Holcomb looks skinny now, but I’m guessing that filling out won’t be a problem.

John, Welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
