To refresh everyone’s memory, a basketball team is permitted to have 13 scholarship players. That’s the limit. From reading the chart, Mac McClung and Jamarius Burton are both currently redshirting (hence the red square for 2021), but McClung is seeking a waiver to play immediately this year. You’ll also note the red squares at the end of the careers and in men’s basketball, this is really to let you know that redshirts are available, but are typically utilized only if there is an injury as most basketball players play their freshmen years or move on. McClung’s red square will become a black square if/when he receives his waiver. Burton is supposedly content redshirting this year.

There are no colored squares next to Avery Benson because he’s not on scholarship and he’s essentially a walk-on for the time being. He was given scholarship funds last year when there was a roster spot available.

This group has the chance to be a tremendously talented team, but without McClung, it could be a guard short.
