“The really tough part about it is Arizona did nothing wrong,” Schooler said Tuesday. “It was a conference choice for them to not play, and I have no bad blood over there. I still wish everybody the best at Arizona.

“But personally I couldn’t sit back and watch the rest of the teams that decided to not opt out of the season play. I feel like when it’s fall time, it’s football time and that’s what my family and I chose to do.”

Zach Kittley was on Kliff Kingsbury’s staff from 2013-17, working his way up from student assistant to offensive intern and then graduate assistant.

“It’s definitely special going back home, and that’s my alma mater,” he said. “I’ve got two degrees from there. It’s where I got my coaching start, so definitely it’ll be really special to get back there to West Texas and play an opponent like Texas Tech. It’s going to be a really good challenge for our football team, and we’re excited for the opportunity.”
