Podcasts. Check out your guys, Spencer and Michael, on 23 Personnel Podcast, a Texas Tech athletics podcast where food and sports clash at the goal line, as well as Keith Patrick and Dinger Derby, the only, yes only, podcast about Texas Tech baseball.

Time Magazine named Patrick Mahomes as one of the 100 most influential people, written by Derek Jeter:

That joy and loyalty drive his work ethic and the hours of practice and studying he puts in to be the best he can be. It drives his ability to stay calm, steady and focused when challenges arise, whether in the middle of the biggest game or over the course of a long season. And most important, it drives his competitive fire and strong leadership qualities, which just continue to grow.

There is a lot more promise in Patrick Mahomes’ future than just on-field accolades. He already has started to build a legacy as one of the most impactful athletes of his generation, and I, for one, am excited to see what is next.

Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams has a notebook, including safety Eric Monroe discussing playing UT quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who he played while at LSU last year and in high school in the championship game, Caden Sterns discusses his two brothers who played for Houston Baptist, and Texas Tech sold out 3,500 student tickets yesterday. Also of note, is that former Texas Tech footballer Jordyn Brooks will make his first start for the Seattle Seahawks against the Cowboys this Sunday.

Dallas Morning News’ Chuck Carlton writes about how this upcoming Texas and Texas Tech game has a redemption aspect to it, with Texas QB Sam Ehlinger thinking it is advantageous that Texas Tech will only have a percentage of the fans:

He got a crash course two years ago in a 41-34 Texas win — the rowdy fans, the strange endings especially at night and of course the flying tortillas that get launched from the stands.

“I think my favorite is the tortillas. That’s their biggest interaction, I guess,” Ehlinger said this week, doing a bit of mental math. “I guess there will be a quarter of the amount of tortillas thrown per game on Saturday. That’s kind of unfortunate.

Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant reports that former Red Raider baseballer, Josh Jung, is expected to be part of the major league team with Texas in 2021 and manager Chris Woodward has a ton of good things to say about Jung:

“Honestly, it’s impressive,” Woodward said. “He’s in tune with pretty much everything we talked about whether that’s game-planning, understanding how to hit different types of pitching, what kind of swing he needs to take, where he needs to think about hitting the ball. He’s a student of the game and he’s about as advanced as I’ve seen, especially for a guy who hasn’t played in the major leagues. He wants to learn. And that’s why I think he’s going to have a ton of success.”

This was fun.

Kirsten Davis, Cassie Hiatt, and Margaret Begley are affirmed as captains for the soccer team.
