* OU Daily: OU football: Ronnie Perkins, Rhamondre Stevenson will play at Texas Tech Saturday, per report

* OU Daily: OU football: Charleston Rambo, Delarrin Turner-Yell, Trejan Bridges to miss game at Texas Tech, per report — This is a pretty big deal, both starters, and both highly productive. There’s no way that Oklahoma will have a suitable back-up. No way.

Lincoln Riley teethed as an assistant coach for Texas Tech. He remembers when the Sooners would roll into town. It was an opportunity game for a Red Raiders program looking for a news-making win.

“I don’t want to presume what Coach (Matt) Wells or his players are thinking, but I know when you’re at Texas Tech, or when I was there, any time a Texas or an OU came to town, it was a big deal. I would imagine that hasn’t changed,” Riley said.

“Road night games are as fun as it gets, and especially there. I think every time we’ve been there too, it’s been a night game … it’s challenging road football. And we played against some pretty good players up there the last several years that have made plays, our guys have made plays, and there’s been a lot of back-and-forth. Last several years (we’ve) been down there, it’s been three starting NFL quarterbacks playing in those games, just like that. It’s a fun place to play, but it’s also challenging, no question.”

If they play, however, Tech offensive coordinator David Yost will have an opportunity to create some favorable matchups with his physical receivers versus an OU secondary that is lacking in size. Getting the ball to some of the Tech skill players in space would force the Sooners to complete one-on-one tackles, which is not their strong suit.

Even at full strength, however, Tech probably can’t block the Sooners well enough to give Henry Colombi the time he will need to throw effectively. Assuming Spencer Rattler doesn’t return to his turnover-prone ways, OU shouldn’t have to sweat the outcome of this game in the second half.

If the Red Raiders don’t get some hands back on deck, it’ll be more challenging to keep up with Oklahoma. The Sooners are giving up 26.8 points per game, middle of the pack in the Big 12, but lead the conference in rushing defense with an average yield of only 92.2 yards per game and are tied for second in sacks with 15.

“They’re fast. They’re very physical. They’re fly around,” Yost said. “They do a lot of movement up front to disrupt your blocking schemes from the run game to the pass game. Every now and then, teams have caught them for a big play, but there’s a lot of zero plays on that video, a lot of tackles for loss. They get after the quarterback and they get after the run game that way.”

While Oklahoma isn’t the OU of the past few years, it’s still a formidable team with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.

Wells’ advice to Colombi was to do much of what he did last week.

“Do it again this week,” Wells said. “New defense. New challenges. They have a really good defensive line. These guys are really fast on defense at Oklahoma. They present some unique challenges. The safeties are active, involved. (Cornerback Brandon Radley-Hiles) is all over the place, what a really good player.

“(Colombi) needs to continue to invest the same amount of time and preparation that he did the last two weeks and again this week. That’s pretty normal for a QB any week, but especially for a new starter.”
