Podcasts. Check out your guys, Spencer and Michael, on 23 Personnel Podcast, a Texas Tech athletics podcast where food and sports clash at the goal line, as well as Keith Patrick and Dinger Derby, the only, yes only, podcast about Texas Tech baseball.

It’s Monday and I’ve had time take time off after writing yesterday morning. We went to Half Price Books yesterday, I picked up the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (all of the books combined as I think there are 6), Miranda got an Ina Garten (I feel like Geoffrey), Fitsum got a Calvin and Hobbes, and Youssouf picked up a couple of graphic novels.

Let’s check in on Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams who opined on the state of the program:

That’s not to say those in charge of the program and the people who support it shouldn’t have concerns. I can think of quite a few, and I’ll redirect the conversation here to what Wells says his program must be about: recruiting and development.

The development part is the most alarming. I think the defense looks better, but it doesn’t matter if the unit can’t get stops with games on the line — as against Texas and Kansas State and again Saturday at TCU, when Max Duggan went 81 yards for the clinching touchdown right after the missed field goal.

In most facets of the team, it’s hard to make a case the Red Raiders are getting appreciably better, and in some cases they’re demonstrably worse. More than halfway through the season, Tech’s made one field goal and had four punts blocked, a ratio that would be hard to fathom any year, but especially now, given the success those units enjoyed last year.

Via Talk 1340’s Rob Breaux, Texas Tech linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for evading a watercraft. I can’t even imagine what happened, but generally speaking this sounds pretty kick-ass because there’s not a lot of places for someone to evade police on a boat .

The Rebound’s Rob Dauster has his list of breakout candidates and at the very end is Terrence Shannon:

Now, I don’t think this is going to be a Jarrett Culver situation. Culver had on-ball ability. Shannon’s offensive repertoire is something of an unknown at this point. But I do think that he has the talent to have the kind of season where he sneaks into the back-end of the 2021 NBA Draft’s first round.

Also listed from the Big 12 is West Virginia point guard Miles McBride.

Dallas Morning News’ Joseph Hoyt</> ranks the top 10 boys basketball team in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and John Paul II’s Jaylon Tyson is ranked 3rd behind Harrison Ingram (Stanford) and Manny Obaseki (also at John Paul II).
