Podcasts. Check out your guys, Spencer and Michael, on 23 Personnel Podcast, a Texas Tech athletics podcast where food and sports clash at the goal line, as well as Keith Patrick and Dinger Derby, the only, yes only, podcast about Texas Tech baseball.

Texas Tech has recovered. Yesterday, St. John’s cancelled their upcoming game on Thursday in Lubbock and all was lost (not really). Thankfully, Scott Sutton and Mark Adams were able to schedule a Friday night game with Troy, set to tip at 8:00 p.m. and the game will be on ESPN2. Of all of the scenarios, I think this works out well and I don’t think this will happen as much with the conference games because the Big 12 has basically said that if you’ve got six available players, then “game on”. As to Friday’s game, Troy Trojans, I salute you.

On the women’s side, the bad news continued as Vanderbilt cancelled their Wednesday game with the Lady Raiders that was set for Wednesday (that’s today) because of COVID-19 problems within the Commodores program with no re-schedule for the Vanderbilt or Missouri game.

Let’s get to some good news though with the Lady Raiders. Vivian Gray was named to the Women’s Preseason Top 30 Watch List for the John R. Wooden Award.

Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams writes about defensive tackle Devin Drew and the depleting defensive line:

A lot changed between August and December. Mbanasor and Howard suffered season-ending injuries, McCann opted out and Bradford suffered a freak knee injury in a pre-game warmup that cost him two games.

About a month ago, it became a ready-or-not situation for less-seasoned defensive linemen such as Drew, Troy Te’o, Tyree Wilson and Philip Blidi.

“I don’t think we really ever looked at it as pressure,” Drew said. “It was kind of like a good thing for us, because it’s getting us more reps, more reps that a lot of us needed like me and Ty and Phil and all those guys. We didn’t have that many reps, so us getting reps only made our position group stronger and deeper.”
