Finally a little chance to breathe, which is good for me. The streak of 3 games in 3 days with previews and post-game things to write always are difficult from a time perspective. From a content perspective, it’s not bad at all, except when you have to write about a 16-13 win over the worst team in the Power Five. Silver lining? Writing about a 16-13 win is better than a 16-13 loss every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

And the two basketball games were fun, a post-game thoughts is coming up here shortly (or will have been posted). The men play their next game on Wednesday against Abilene Christian and the Lady Raiders will start conference play for their next game against Baylor on December 14th in Waco and will be on ESPNU. The Lady Raiders had an ugly game against Rice on Saturday, losing by 19 and Vivian Gray scored 1 point and missed all 9 shots from the field. That’s pretty rare, but she had an off day for sure and that probably changes the outcome a bit if she’s even remotely on.

Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams notebooked the game from Saturday and noted how the coaches had to adjust with offensive line coach Steve Farmer and defensive line coach Paul Randolph both out:

Tech adjusted by moving linebackers coach Kevin Cosgrove, a longtime defensive coordinator, from the booth to the sideline. Cosgrove oversaw defensive-line rotations, and defensive graduate assistant Kirby Ennis and Troy Kema also pitched in. Kema is associate athletics director for player development and student-athlete services.

I forgot to mention in my Ten Things on Sunday morning that Jack Anderson decided to leave early and enter the NFL Draft. I honestly thought he was going to leave last year, but being injured most of the year put the kibosh on that. Williams noted that Anderson is currently on the fringe of being drafted, but I definitely get the idea that he’s done with school.

Also of note is that Riko Jeffers, T.J. Vasher, and Travis Koontz were all out for the game. I knew that Jeffers and Vasher were injured, but Koontz was apparently out for non-Covid reasons that were not disclosed.

I will be completely honest. I am absolutely glad that the football team won for the seniors. I know that this probably makes the situation worse to an extent, but I’m a softee when it comes to the players. I don’t think winning this game saves a job, like Kingsbury winning the UT game a few years ago.

Don’t forget that National Signing Day is December 14th through the 16th and would it be in the best interest of the program to wait? I have conflicting feelings about that, but something to consider.
