Texas Tech Basketball: Burton and Goldin Enter the Transfer Portal

Well, another day goes by and two more players decide to enter the transfer portal. Guard Jamarius Burton and center Vladislav Goldin both entered the transfer portal yesterday, leaving the scholarship numbers a bit low. A bit low.

I can imagine that there is some hand-wringing regarding the numbers, but as it has been repeated “online” is that one-half of basketball is in the transfer portal. That’s just sort of the world we live in right now. I know that some of you don’t like this idea of players being able to move freely. Given how the offseason has progressed, that’s understandable, but I’d also state that players being able to move freely is the way that the NCAA is headed, at least for a year.

I tend to think that the NCAA is headed towards a one-time transfer for any and all players and then after that, players will have to sit out for a year. Player movement is just going to be part of coaching, i.e. keeping players happy is going to be part of the deal for a head coach moving forward.

I’d also add that pretty much every college program is going through some sort of transfer situation. the uncertainty surrounding the situation is also difficult, i.e. who are the coaches and who will the players be. There’s most likely more uncertainty with Texas Tech’s program right now, but there’s a ton of player movement all over the place.

With that being said, head coach Mark Adams has offered northern State forward Parker Fox (6-8) and Dallas Baptist Chandler Jacobs (6-3). I know that these sorts of things don’t sound exciting. Both players are incredibly talented and although they aren’t Division I. They’ll play.

And I’m sure there are other players out there that are being bandied about for Adams and the staff, we’re just not privy to everything. The junior colleges are also still playing and Adams has dropped multiple hints that Steve Green at South Plains College as a possible staff addition and I’m guessing his rolodex of potential players who are in the junior college ranks is extensive, not just limited to on his team.
