The AP voters have determined that Texas Tech is the 25th best team in the nation. Let that sink in this morning.

Almost 24 hours after the game ended, the official site released the post-game press conference. You can hear the person yelling in the Don Williams article referenced below. It’s a pretty loud yell considering it is across the hall. Also interesting that Kingsbury said that they probably didn’t handle Felton right last year, which is the first time I’ve heard him say that. Also interesting to hear Kingsbury talk about the Ole Miss loss, admitted that the game plan was very basic when Alan Bowman entered into the game, but said that he had no idea he’d do what he’s doing.

RedRaiderSports’ Jack Densmore recaps the media availablity from yesterday where head coach Kliff Kingsbury, defensive end Eli Howard and receiver Zach Austin were made available to the media. Here’s Kingsbury talking about the penalties and entering into the top 25:

– He said he the four penalties that Tech had in the game was probably the fewest they have had since he has been the head coach. “One was an intentional grounding which he was trying to get out of the pocket, one was a phantom offensive pass interference call which didn’t exist and then one our center kind of stumbled on the ball and got a false start, but that was the cleanest game we’ve played in a long time and if we can eliminate those penalties and not give free yards we feel like we have a good chance to win.”

– Now that Tech is ranked in the AP Top 25, Kingsbury said they know they just played one game. “We’ve got a long way to go. We didn’t play our best by any stretch and we’re going to need to moving forward as we get into the heart of conference.”

A-J Media’s Carlos Silva, Jr. also recaps yesterday a bit and says the box score was updated to include four penalties, not three, and Demarcus Felton actually ended up with 130 yards rushing, while SaRodorick Thompson had some yards subtracted from his total.

A-J Media’s Don Williams editorializes on Texas Tech’s win over Oklahoma State:

So much went right that even Kliff Kingsbury was in the mood for one-liners. When someone in the adjacent locker room roared really long and really loud, Kingsbury cracked that it was “maybe Kirby.”

We in the media overuse the phrase “must-win,” but I wondered to Kingsbury if starting the Big 12 schedule with three ranked teams in a row didn’t make this a must-win.

“Nah. I’ve been in some must-wins, now,” Kingsbury said, smiling. “That one at the end of last year (beating Texas) was a must-win.”

I don’t have time to post all of the touchdowns from Patrick Mahomes, but this was pretty amazing and he basically did the same thing at Texas Tech (no big deal) and Jakeem Grant also scored a couple of touchdowns that were pretty fun.
