Prior to the release of the statement, DT’s McKenzi Morris provided a statement from the Texas Tech Police Department that said in part:

The Lubbock Police Department is reporting that there have been two shootings at an apartment complex east of the Texas Tech Campus shortly after 6 pm.

The shootings occurred in the 1800 Glenna Goodacre Boulevard near the pool area of the Park East Student Living Apartments. The suspect for both shootings is a black male with dreads, 5’11” tall, wearing a white tanktop, black pants and carrying a camo backpack. The Lubbock Police is still searching for the suspect.

I’ll update this post when more information becomes available.

UPDATE: The LAJ is reporting that Scott was seriously injured, but in stable condition:

Police confirmed the male – identified by Tech Athletics as John Scott III – was seriously injured but in stable condition and a female suffered minor injuries. The female victim was not immediately identified.
