Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on what quarterback Behren Morton took from the trip to Jacksonville and the Manning Passing Academy:
In late May, Morton and Ramirez went to Jacksonville, Florida, for the second year in a row to work with Gormely, who specializes in applied biomechanics, throwing development and arm injury rehabilitation. According to his website, Gormely and his team at CORTX Performance have trained 27 NFL quarterbacks.
“That was really the ramp-up of throwing for me,” Morton said on July 8 at Big 12 media days in Frisco. “That was when I kind of got unrestricted throwing. We were throwing every single day, but as far as the rehab side of it, that was what really got me back to feeling really good.”
This X/tweet received a lot of play yesterday (the article itself is behind a paywall) as “sources” tell Pete Nakos that Texas Tech is paying 30% more and that’s a bold statement to attribute to anonymous sources and without really knowing, like someone who is intimately involved, such as Cody Campbell. And Campbell would go on the record so there’s no need for sources, thus this seems like a statement that cannot be proven by sources. I think Texas Tech fans will be facing this all year so buckle up.
NEW: Texas Tech’s roster is set to cost north of $28M this season, sources tell @PeteNakos_π
βThey have to pay 30% more to get the guys because of location.βhttps://t.co/KSq2X86iuM https://t.co/sFvDKBuEtk pic.twitter.com/j0oaO8nYsG

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese with the 7 most important defensive players, here’s #7:
7. Brendan Jordan, safety, junior, 6-0, 210
Brendan Jordan has been a consistent presence in his two years at Texas Tech, appearing in all 26 games with seven starts. That came at the STAR position. Jordan will now slide over to the strong side while last year’s starter, Chapman Lewis, potentially uses a redshirt throughout the regular season.
On the Hardwood
Lady Raider basketball will be representing Team USA at FISU World University Games in Germany starting July 18th through the 25th. The first game is July 18th against Germany and there is a link there to watch.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Stephen Garcia on how student manager Laci White will suit up for the Lady Raiders in Germany as the 4 international players cannot participate and Bailey Maupin is being held out with an injury.
“We wanted to make sure this was a Texas Tech experience,” Gerlich said, “but we also want to represent well, too. β¦ Laci was one that we knew was here that could immediately practice with us. We could use her in our practices and she already knows our system. Obviously, we know she’s a great high school player.”
On the Diamond
Texas Tech baseball had 5 players drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft, including pitcher Mac Heuer by the Yankees, pitcher Trendan Parish by the Rays, infielder Damian Bravo by the Giants, pitcher Jack Cebert by the Yankees, and pitcher Zane Petty by the Brewers.
