Rainier Beach in Seattle, Washington, point guard Jaylen Petty (6-0/165) committed to Texas Tech last night. Petty was the Gatorade Player of the Year last year where he averaged 24.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3.2 steals while shooting 59.5% from the field and 46.6% from beyond the arc. Petty appears to be an all-purpose scorer, he’s got a nice jump shot that doesn’t seem to need a ton of work, gets plenty of elevation on that shot and you definitely like his ability to find open teammates is probably the most critical thing that he can do to start, that and make open shots. He has the ability to finish at the rim and we’ll have to see how that translate at 6’0″, which is usually an adjustment for a smaller player; however, that is something that probably is less of a concern as these players play a ton of AAU and club basketball where they are forced to play with bigger kids who can affect their shots and they have to adjust.
I also found this Instagram post where Petty is playing summer ball for an Adidas team called Dream Vision, which is a team out of California and more importantly, an adidas team, which is probably not a coincidence and also confirms that he’s playing club basketball. You’ll also note from the Instagram post where Petty announces his commitment that he’s playing in front of Allen Iverson on some sort of all-star team (most likely) which is cool.

My guess is that this is the roster for Texas Tech for the 2025-26 year. It would be nice to add another big and I tend to think that every year, but here we are.
