Non-transcript of the post-scrimmage presser of Joey McGuire.
- Have not had a lot of warm weather, good to get out in the stadium and how they handle the heat, which they handled great.
- Everyone that started the scrimmaged finished.
- Dantae Balfour is having an incredible camp. Physical and long. Loves playing football.
- Biggest offensive highlight is being able to run the football. J’Koby Williams finished red zone with a TD. Cameron Dickey runs physical and angry. Quinten Joyner had big runs, also had a TD. Adam Hill worked with the 3’s and expect a lot out of him on the special teams.
- Need to find a way to get John Curry on the field. Have him playing at Star, he had an interception and 2 huge tackles in the open field. He’s having a great camp and showed up today.
- Cole Wisniewski, called him the eraser, impressed with how he tackled today.
- Defense caused 3 turnovers, Johncarlos Miller had a catch and Jacob Rodiguez punched it out. Reggie Virgil had a touchdown.
- Was impressed with the first offense, and had zero pre-snap penalties on offense with the 1’s and I think as we’ll go, we’ll get better.
- With the 1’s today, our strengths is the guys are big in size, had Howard Sampson, Will Jados, Wilson Sheridan, Daniel Sill, and Jacob Ponton. Had some big humans moving some people and good blocking tight ends. Danny got to start today because Davion Carter graduated today and had a huge group of family members coming in today and told him to make sure and take it all in.
- When they walk on campus they are blown away with everything, we are competing at the highest level, we are great and making relationships, Brian Nance and James Blanchard. The big thing is I want to find the next David Bailey and Romello Height. I want to go get that guy, Howard Sampson and Jacob Ponton, I want guys like that and make it a priority.
- Sheridan Wilson is such a Red Raider, a perfectionist, just make sure everyone is on the same call. He did a great job with that. Had a Big 12 crew here today.
- Hunter Zambrano will be back on Monday. I say buy stock in Balfour. Buy stock in Danny Sill, he’s a big kid, doesn’t shave. I thought he did a good job.
- Another guy I was impressed with, reminds me a lot of Xavier Newman, is Connor Carty, he’s run with the 2’s and that’s hard to do as a freshman. He can physically hold up to the speed and strength of the older guys. He got some 2’s at right guard today.
- I think RB will be situational, red zone we were in 2-back stuff, we motion J’Koby to play the slot. They all catch the ball well. They are physical in blitz pick-up and we lost the best guy last year in blitz pick-up. I real a shifty homerun hitter in J’Koby, Quinten is effortless and like a wave, Cameron is like a ball of fury and he’s runs angry and he’s rocked up. The running backs are a deep room. They are competitive, but they don’t get upset, they all ran with the 1’s and 2’s.
- Still going to be a battle at right tackle. Jacob Ponton is fighting to be that guy. John Curry wants to be on the football field at Star. Good battle between Johncarlos and Terrance Carter, but they are both playing so much. Stone Harrington has had a good camp. We had 1 we pushed to the right. Jack Burgess has added 5+ average yards on how he’s punting the ball.
- If it was 3 turnovers by the 1’s then we’d be concerned. The 1st one bothered me with Miller and he got it loose and the Giants scout is standing right there in Rodriguez. John Curry made a good play on an interception, Tarrion Grant had an interception, the QB probably should have thrown the ball out of bounds. We had 2 huge runs called back and being lazy at our feet at the tight end position.
- Tahj Brooks did a great job, he was playing the Eagles, he had a 10 yard run called back. He did a good job in pass pro, and he said he felt good. I talked to Caleb Rogers too.
- The new pumpjacks, and we are a university we know who we are and don’t shy away from it. We’ve had such an incredible engineering school and some guys like Terry Fuller, Cody Campbell, Kevin Noles, and we’re not going to shy away from it.
- We had a couple of big plays in the passing game. Tristian Gentry had a bit play in a deep ball. One thing that showed up, we have an entirely different spring game. We are going to keep doing it, Reggie Virgil and Caleb Douglas are long and can run.
- Starting at cornerback are Maurion Horn, Brice Pollock, and Dantae Balfour, you could flip a coin, I wouldn’t mind any of them out there. I am proud of Mo, he has a bruised heel and hasn’t missed a single practice. Today it was Dante and Mo that started.
- Tarrion Grant had an interception. Reggie Virgil, J’Koby Williams, Micah Hudson, Leyton Stone all had a touchdown, don’t count the quarterbacks. J’Koby’s run was maybe 20 yards. Reggie and Leyton was maybe 8 to 10 yard pass. All receivers had touchdowns in the red zone.

Robert Giovannetti and Joey McGuire podcast after the scrimmage. I listened, but don’t know that there was any additional information from this from the presser summarized above. He did mention that Amier Boyd also played well and the young receivers also played well.
