Texas Tech Football: Week 0 is Upon Us

We’ve got a short list of links this morning. I have a College Football Game Day Thread going up at 10:00 a.m. as Iowa State and Kansas State kickoff from Ireland at 11:00 a.m. Later in the day is Fresno State vs Kansas at 5:30 p.m. and then Stanford vs Hawaii at 6:30 p.m.

Episode 3 of The Brand.

I bet we get more of the video on the next episode of The Brand, but men’s basketball head coach Grant McCasland spoke to the team and preached the idea of laying your life down for your teammate and you sort of get why his teams play with such passion.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams details what he thinks will be the depth chart. Here’s the depth chart for the defensive backs and Don’s thoughts:

Projected starters: Star S John Curry, So; CB Brice Pollock, Jr.; Field S Brenden Jordan, Jr.; Boundary S Cole Wisniewski, Sr.; CB Maurion Horn, Jr.

Top backups: Star S A.J. McCarty, Sr.; Star S Mike Dingle, So.; CB Dontae Balfour, Sr.; Field S Oliver Miles III, Fr-RS; Field S Peyton Morgan, Fr-RS; Boundary S Malik Esquerra, Fr-RS; CB Amier Boyd, Jr.

In a nutshell: Another position Tech fortified via the transfer portal. Blending Pollock, Wisniewski, and Balfour, full-time starters at their previous stops, with returning regulars Jordan, Horn, and McCarty, fosters weekly competition for playing time and injury protection.

Thinking out loud: The transfers have snared a lot of the spotlight, but Jordan and Horn are juniors who are ready to take the next step.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on Cody Campbell saying that the Matador Club has raised $63 million since 2022:

“It’s a staggering sum of money, far beyond what I thought we could do,” Campbell said. “It’s because all of you made it happen — 3,500 separate donors. A lot of people stepped up in a really big way, but it’s the mass support that got us there.

“People don’t publish these numbers, but there is no way, based on the information I have, that anyone has come even close to matching this number in an NIL collective.”
