The 4th episode of The Brand, you get more context for Grant McCasland’s talk to the team.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on David Bailey’s first few months with Texas Tech:
Lubbock’s famous for its dust storms in the spring. Bailey experienced an unrelated whirlwind of his own, transferring from Stanford to Tech at the start of April.
“It was definitely hectic,” he said, “but I think people like the support staff — Q (Quintin Jordan, Tech director of football operations) was one of the main people that helped me get acclimated — did a great job of helping me find a spot to live and then also get in contact with my teachers. The football stuff kind of took care of itself in terms of getting on the field and playing and just running around.”
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese with his week 1 prediction.
Red Raider Sports’ Ava Hounshell on Ben Roberts this year:
Along with physical improvements, first-year defensive coordinator Shiel Wood came in and demonstrated exactly what he expects from his players. Specifically for Roberts, gaining confidence was another improvement for the mental side of football.
“He (Wood) knows how he has to act in each moment. He makes sure you know if you got something right or you got something wrong,” Roberts said. “He’s not hammering it into you to where you don’t want to go to meetings and watch film. He’s going to coach me hard on the field, but when we go to meetings, he’s going to make sure I understand what I’m doing. It’s not like ‘Oh you’re stupid for not knowing,’ but ‘hey this is how we fix that.’”
