On the Court
In an attempt to get to all of the things, Texas Tech volleyball defeated Alabama State last week to go 2-1 on their Georgia road trip. They head back out on the road on Friday to be part of the Lumberjack Classic in Flagstaff where they will play Southern Utah, NAU and UC San Diego.
On the Pitch
In case you are curious, Texas Tech soccer doesn’t play again until Sunday where they will host Utah State in their final non-conference game before facing Baylor in Waco on September 19th.
On the Hardwood
Texas Tech basketball will take on Arkansas in Dallas at the American Airlines Center on December 13th.
On the Gridiron
College Poll Tracker has all of the details of the latest AP Poll with Texas Tech moving up to #21. If this is something that you care about, then this is a great resource to see how each voter voted.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly has his weekly notes column with him asking if Texas Tech is the best team in the Big 12, which he says is false, but only because the Big 12 will likely be pretty fierce.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams opines that Texas Tech has issues to correct:
But the Red Raiders have gotten away with stuff the first two weeks that won’t pass muster any Saturday now. In the second quarter Saturday, the Red Raiders had first-and-goal from the 5 and needed fourth-and-goal to finally score a Cameron Dickey touchdown after Kent State stonewalled Dickey on back-to-back runs from the 1.
In the third quarter, the Golden Flashes stopped a fourth-and-1. You should be able to run for a yard on a bad MAC team whenever, right?
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on Adam Hill’s success:
Hill became the first Texas Tech running back to hit 100 yards this season, totaling 127 yards on 16 carries to punctuate the Red Raiders’ 62-14 throttling of Kent State.
“That wasn’t on my bingo card,” Joey McGuire said of Hill’s feat. “I was proud of him. Really proud of him.
Though Williams and Dickey have monopolized the carries when the game wasn’t a blowout, Hill’s emergence as a hard-nosed runner could be beneficial to Texas Tech moving forward.
Oregon Sate is at the bad end of the graph and Texas Tech is at the good end.
