Last week, someone asked about an update for Youssouf. Just to catch you up, Youssouf was at running back, trying to take an additional step while two kids were on his back, and his femur popped out of his hip socket and torn his hip labrum. It sounds terrible and it was. Surgery was at the end of September and so were’ about 3 weeks out from them. He’s on crutches for about 5 more weeks and he starts rehab in the middle of November. Because of the nature of the tear, they had to use cadaver tissue to repair the labrum, so that means a minimum of 6 to 7 months before he’s back to normal (from the end of September).

And he’s good, aside from being 14 and wanting to be back doing things now. There’s no pain or anything like that. The biggest issue is the fact that he’s on crutches and he’s used to running around and all of the things. He definitely appreciates those things now and he also appreciates how those individuals who have to get around on crutches or wheelchairs permanently have to deal with everyday life.

On the Pitch

Texas Tech soccer defeated Arizona 2-0 yesterday afternoon, completing the state of Arizona sweep, a 3-2 win over Arizona State on Thursday night. Goals arrived from Raleigh Greason in the 1st half and Taylor Zdrojewski, assisted by Peyton Parsons, in the 2nd half. Texas Tech will travel to Colorado on Thursday night to face the Buffs, first touch is at 8:00 p.m.

On the Diamond

Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent recaps the day in Norman for the two scrimmages (the 2nd was cut short because of lightning):

The Red Raider baseball team suffered through a disastrous first inning in Norman on Saturday afternoon and dropped a couple of exhibition contests to Oklahoma. Texas Tech fell in the first game 18-1 before seeing the weather cut the second game short in the fourth inning. The Sooners were leading 4-3 at the time of a lightning strike.

Oklahoma erupted for 15 runs in the first inning of Game 1 with Lukas Pirko, Micah Henson, and Jordan Espinoza all a part of the pitching struggles. Tech pitching would give up just three runs in the next seven innings.

In the final four innings of the first contest, Tech pitchers Parker Hutyra, Bryce Suiter, Logan Bevis, and Dylan Blakey combined to allow just two hits and no runs.

On the Gridiron

Texas Tech football fell to No. 14 in the latest AP Poll. There’s obviously work to do. Some voters have Texas Tech as high as No. 8 and as low as No. 22. I think that there’s a better than zero chance that the Arizona State loss on the road without your starting quarterback isn’t going to be as bad as some losses in the AP Top 25, but we’ll have to wait to see about that.

Via ESPN, 9 of the writers for the 4-letter network have Texas Tech still in the playoffs, many of them with BYU. That BYU game is certainly looming at this point. To remind you, it’s Oklahoma State Saturday, then at Kansas State, then hosting BYU.

CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford still has Texas Tech as a No. 7 seed hosting a game in Lubbock against Ole Miss.
