Starting 5
1. Stats. Arkansas’ only two losses are to Michigan State by 3 and Duke by 9, so not exactly bad losses by any means. The best win is over Louisville earlier in December. Arkansas is a very low turnover team, 7th in the nation, and hardly ever gets their shot blocked and makes 78% of their free throws. Otherwise, they are 98th in 3-point shooting percentage and 100th in 2-point shooting percentage. The Razorbacks are also 129th in free throw rate and 187th in offensive rebounding, so really just an okay offensive team, but the low turnover rate helps a ton. Defensively, they are 20th in the nation in opponent 3-point shooting, and 27th in free throw rate. Of all things, they don’t necessarily turn the ball over very much, 223rd, or limit offensive boards, 142nd overall.
2. Scouting. Acuff is what makes the engine run, high assist rate and low turnover rate, while shooting 42% from deep. He’s a high usage aplayer along with Thomas, who is shooting a similar volume of 3-point shots as Acuff, but only making 35%. Brazille, Pringle and Sealy are al the best rebounders with Ewin being the only one to be concerned about on the offensive boards. Brazile, Ewin, Pringle, Sealy, and Richmond are all shooting really well from inside the arc, 58%+. Wagner is a former #1 player in the nation that is struggling to shoot, making just 50% of his 2-point shots and 31% of 3-point shots. Knox is another guy that shoots really well from deep, 50%, so watch him Saturday morning.
3. How They Match Up. Arkansas should be favored here, although notice the difference of opinion on the advanced stats, KenPom thinks that Texas Tech is the better team. The Razorbacks have not had to really defend a team that shoots a ton of 3’s and Texas Tech is 65th in 3-point rate and 63rd in ability to make them. I feel that McCasland is tightening up the rotation to the point where we pretty much know what to except with the biggest question being what version of Bamgboye that the team will receive each and every game. This is the type of game where you need him to be present and good because Arkansas has a ton of size. This is sort of a prove-it game for Texas Tech, they’ve lost games to the two ranked opponents they have played, Illinois on the road and Purdue in a blowout in the Bahamas. This is going to essentially be a home game for Texas Tech.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:
A historic series that began in 1942 and was renewed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 is set for its 82nd meeting when No. 16 Texas Tech takes on No. 17 Arkansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The neutral-court matchup at the home of the Dallas Mavericks is dubbed the Revocruit Rematch โ a reflection of an electric NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 game last season where Tech earned an 85-83 overtime win to advance to the program’s third Elite Eight.
“We’ve had a great run in the DFW and this will be a great opportunity to keep that going this weekend playing against Arkansas in American Airlines,” Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. “It’s a fantastic venue that I know our guys are excited about playing in but more than anything it’s the opponent. They are a tremendous team with crazy talent. They’re competitive and as fast as any team we’ll play. They are difficult to play against and score against. They push in transition and make it really tough on you.”
