Late work evenings have kept me pretty busy. I know there’s more news out there than this, but this will have to do for now.
On the Hardwood
The Lady Raiders host Jacksonville at 11:30 a.m. today as part of Education Day. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and I sort of have to remind myself that the mascot of Jacksonville are the Dolphins
On the Gridiron
Texas Tech football announced 3-year extensions of all 3 coordinators, Shiel Wood, Mack Leftwich, and Kenny Perry, along with general manager James Blanchard. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams has more details on Wood and Leftwich, including that Wood’s contract is 3 years for 5.55 million, Leftwich is 3 years for 4.8 million. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams also has the details on Blanchard’s contract, which is $700,000 for 2026, then $725,000 for 2027, and $750,000 for 2028.
Texas Tech volleyball received the commitment of hitter Gretchen Sigman. This is normally not something that happens on the gridiron, but Sigman is the girlfriend to Brendan Sorsby, the Cincinnati quarterback who just entered the transfer portal. It is rumored that Sorsby and Texas Tech are on a path of inevitability. It seems as if the odds are good that Sorsby will be a Red Raider, but you never know how these things go. Last year for Cincinnati Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, 5 picks, on 62% completion percentage and about passing yards a game, while averaging about 50 yards on the ground with 9 touchdowns. This would be pretty significant.
Texas Tech’s next potential QB Brendan Sorsby is headed to the transfer portal. What to know about Sorsby’s time at Cincinnati, how he’d fit with the Red Raiders, and thishttps://t.co/x8bLLQyPoY pic.twitter.com/xEpKiDo9Kz

ESPN’s Bill Connelly ranks all 64 playoff teams of all time and has Texas Tech at No. 30. This is totally fun and has no bearing on anything important.
CBS Sports’ Cody Nagel with one reason why each team can win the College Football Playoff.
Next episode of What’s Next with Joey McGuire and Robert Giovanetti.
