The Morning Stake

The Morning Stake: February 28th

Your daily update to all things Texas Tech athletics, including a busy weekend for a lot of spring sports.

Track & Field

Big 12 Championsips. Both teams finished 4th, probably expecting to finish higher considering the rankings, especially the men. Full recap here.

Lady Raider Basketball

Lady Raiders Sweep Kansas. The Lady Raiders take down the Kansas Jayhawks, 69-58. This is just the 3rd conference win for the Lady Raiders (remember, the men were in this same spot last year) and the second against Kansas. Ivonne CookTaylor had 19 points to lead the way, while Japreece Dean had 17 points, 4 steals and 4 assists.

Softball

Softball Splits Saturday.

Baseball

Texas Tech Defeats No. 6 Louisiana. A full recap can be found at the preview and series thread, including links to the box score and official site recap.

Basketball

Men Fall to Kansas. I recapped yesterday’s loss to Kansas for the men. It was a game that very well could have gotten away from Texas Tech, but they really did battle. Only a 9 point loss to Kansas in Lawerence isn’t terrible, especially considering they are the 2nd ranked team in the nation. At home Kansas in their lost 3 games throttled Oklahoma State by 30 or so, beat West Virginia by 10, beat Kansas State by 18. Although, of all things, TCU played Kansas tough in Lawerence, losing by 9 as well.
