The Morning Stake: May 22nd

Staking The Plains Stuff

Hello everyone and good to be back. I spent a few days in Mexico at Isla Mujeres, which is a small island just off the coast of Cancun. Pretty amazing place. If you want to see photos of me taking tequila shots or of the island you can check out my Twitter handle where I posted a few photos.

From what I can tell, you all did a fantastic job of posting links and stuff in the Morning Open Thread. Thank you all for all of your help. I’m sure that some of the links and news you already know, but I’m posting it for my benefit more than anything else. To catch up more or less. I’ve got a busy next two days at work so getting a ton of content won’t be easy, but will do my best.

Texas Tech Golf

The second round of the NCAA Championships was cancelled on Saturday and the final two rounds are to be played on Sunday and Monday, shortening the tournament to 54 rather than 72 holes in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

Texas Tech Tennis

The ladies tennis team beat Auburn 4-2 to advance to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Championships. The ladies then had to face #3 Ohio State on Sunday morning where they lost 4-0. Regardless, the highest finish for Todd Petty and these ladies in program history.

Something to think about. This team only has 4 seniors.

Texas Tech Baseball

On Saturday, Texas Tech claimed a share of the Big 12 title by sweeping Kansas. Texas Tech tied TCU with a 16-8 conference record and moved to 42-13 on the year, the only Big 12 team with 40+ wins. I know a lot of folks are claiming the outright title because Texas Tech won the season series with TCU, but rules are rules. I’m pretty comfortable knowing that Texas Tech is the better team. The Big 12 will hold their Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City this week and no matter what happens there, I’m pretty sure that Texas Tech will be a national seed so you should feel pretty good about that.

Texas Tech Football

The ESPN Big 12 blog was busy releasing position rankings and they had Texas Tech’s special teams 9th overall, the defensive backs 10th overall and Jack Anderson was the only Red Raider mentioned as a true freshman to make an immediate impact.
