A Tiki Tech Special – Homefield Magic #9 (A.K.A. The Good Brand-y)

It’s finally here. Homefield Apparel, the best to ever do it, has released their Texas Tech line.

Saying I’m excited about this is a bit of an understatement. For those unfamiliar with Homefield, they’re a premium collegiate apparel brand out of Indianapolis that specializes in vintage designs & (incredibly) comfortable clothing. My current wardrobe is already half Homefield shirts thanks to the first season of their Big New Saturday subscription service (season 2 coming soon!), and I’ve gifted a few absolute screamers to my brother the past few years. Teams that have given them a license have often been blessed with improbable good luck, a phenomenon widely known on Twitter as “Homefield Magic”. They put a rock in a fur coat. Folks, The Brand is Good.

As we previously did with the Sonny Rumbie, we have decided to continue the new STP tradition of commemorating special occasions with a celebratory Tiki Tech post. When trying to decide how to best represent Homefield in liquid form, I decided I would take a page from their book and look at the classics. The Homefield Magic #9 (A.K.A. The Good Brand-y) is based off of the Trader Vic’s Mai Tai recipe, and the #9 is in reference to what iteration of the recipe I settled on. To stay with the theme, I substituted the rum for brandy, which I then tempered with rye whiskey. As this still ended up leaning a bit sweet, I cut back a little on the orgeat and added allspice dram to even it all out. What results is a refreshing sip that’s boozy enough on the tongue without being too cloying thanks to the sting of the spice on the back end, a balance that will echo the immaculate aesthetic & luxurious comfort of your new Homefield clothing.

HOMEFIELD MAGIC #9 (A.K.A THE GOOD BRAND-Y)

1-1/2 oz. Brandy
3/4 oz. Rye
1/4 oz. Orange Curacao
1/4 oz. Allspice Dram
3/4 oz. Lime Juice
1/8 oz. Orgeat

Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled (about 10 seconds). Strain over ice, enjoy while looking stunning in your new swag. Wreck’em and Go Hoosiers!
