On the Diamond

Texas Tech baseball made the hire of Colorado Rockies director of pitching Steve Foster as the pitching coach official:

“Our staff is excited about the addition of Steve and his family to our program,” Tadlock said. “His resume speaks for itself. His passion for mentoring young men and teaching pitching will be a great asset to our program. Fosty has earned the right to be in the category of one of the best in the business at any level by his commitment to be a lifelong learner.”

On the Hardwood

Texas Tech basketball’s Wes Bloomquist continues his Q&A series with Marial Akuentok. Worth your time, here’s a bit:

What do you bring to the team on and off the court?

“I want to help bring the team together. On the court, if a teammate goes down I want to be there for them. When they do something great, I want to be there supporting them. If we’re together, nothing can separate us. I think I can bring a lot of positivity to the team no matter what is going on. Team chemistry is really important to me.”

What do you want to get most out of summer workouts?

“I’m working really hard right now. I’ve been out for a year now and it hasn’t always been easy. I’m staying positive and have embraced the grind to get back to myself. My goal this summer is to get back on the court and show what I can do. I want to be stronger and more mobile. I’m really ready to get back out there with my teammates.”

I only do this when I am a bit desperate for content, ESPN’s Bracketology has Texas Tech as the No. 6 seed in St. Louis to face the winner of Texas A&M or SMU.

On the Gridiron

Head coach Joey McGuire and Robert Giovannetti keep up their discussion. This time, a bit about Antonio Huffman and Director of Football Operations, Quintin Jordan, recruiting, Softball College World Series, how Mahomes will try to be at the BYU game, and Graham Harrell (among other things).

Texas Tech football announced color schemes for the first four football games:

Arkansas-Pine Bluff: Wear Red
Kent State: Wear White
Oregon State: East Side and Student Sections – Wear White; West Wide – Wear Red
Kansas – Wear Red

CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer with portal transfer additions that could affect the CFP race:

David Bailey, EDGE, Stanford

The most expensive non-quarterback transfer of the 2025 offseason, Bailey comes to Lubbock to fill a very specific need — generating pressure. Texas Tech scored plenty last year but finished 123rd nationally in yards allowed per play. The two biggest culprits of that: A lack of pressure and a leaky secondary. Texas Tech addressed both issues in the portal, but nothing helps the secondary quite like a havoc creator on the outside. Bailey is that pressure generator for a defense that finished 98th last season in pressure rate. Bailey posted the best PFF pass rush grade (93.2) of all edge defenders from last season. If he can maintain that level of play in Lubbock, the Red Raiders’ defense should take a huge leap forward.
