On the Gridiron
CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah with what is maybe best-described as a profile of West Texas and a bit more detail about how Cody Campbell and John Sellers made their billions and how they also saw a market inefficiency to improve the teams at Texas Tech, particularly the football team. It’s very much worth your time and it was linked heavily yesterday, but I’d not be doing my job if I’m not highlighting it here. It’s terrific and encourage you to write the whole thing.
Not a Texas Tech thing, but via CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford, Wisconsin sued Miami for tampering with a recruit. It’s actually a good thing that this is happening as you wonder if tampering is illegal in the first place. The one fact here is that this was situation where the player signed a multi-year contract with Wisconsin and then Miami tried to sign the player so I don’t know that the question will be answered as to whether or not tampering with a player is illegal, i.e. contacting a player at the end of their contract about committing to your program. Maybe as long as there is no non-compete language during the term and it’s not a multi-year deal, I think that contacting a player or “tampering” isn’t illegal.
