Post-Game Thoughts: Texas Tech 98, Lindenwood 60

Game Links:

Tortilla Tossin’ Player of the Game: Christian Anderson scores 34 on 11 of 23 from the floor with 11 assists, 7 boards, 4 steals and 1 turnover. Bang. Bang.

The Motion:

  • I didn’t get to watch the game, had a late night with work and some other things. Obviously, the biggest news other than the win is that LeJuan Watts, JT Toppin and Luke Bamgboye. McCasland said after the game that they are being catious with all of them and that they are able to win by 38 without those guys. That’s where your team is at.
  • Donovan Atwell appears to be a guy who makes shots, Made 6 of 13 shots and all of them were 3-point shots, along with 4 boards. That appears to be what he does.
  • Another big surprise is Nolan Groves and his 16 rebounds. He’s not a big man, but he played like a big man because Marial Akuentok was the only true big man. I love it when guys step up. He’s got a good shot and took advantage of Anderson drawing defenders.
  • Texas Tech rebounded really well, 59 to 43 and had 23 offensive boards, to just 11 for Lindenwood.
  • Texas Tech shot 45 3-point shots, making 17, which is 38%. That will play, but the volume of 3-point shots is not something we’ve seen.
  • 24 fast break points to allowing just 2 for Lindenwood. Speaking of allowing shots, the Texas Tech defense allowed Lindenwood to make just 31% of their shots and 24% of their 3-point shots.
  • Leon Horner was also a surprise, but it looked like he tweaked his ankle and I wish someone would have asked McCasland about it. He looks like a player and had scored 10 on 4 of 6.
  • Playing with a rag-tag group, Texas Tech had just 7 turnovers and forced 14.
  • McCasland said after the game that Jaylen Petty didn’t have the best offensive game, just 3 of 13 from the floor, but loves the way he scraps and plays. He did fill the box score despite being the smallest player on the court, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and just 1 turnover in 34 minutes.
  • Up next? Friday night Texas Tech hosts Sam Houston at the United Supermarkets Arena, tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
