Texas Tech Basketball: 2026.04.07 Eligibility Chart – Watts & Henderson Enter the Portal

A handful of things happened yesterday.

  • Michigan is the national champion. They clearly had the best team and when I filled out a bracket for my wife, I did pick the Wolverines for her. I guess we’ll find out if I won and she comes home happy. Michigan had size for days, but it was essentially an 8-man rotation, while UConn had a 9-man rotation.
  • North Carolina ended up hiring former Denver Nugget head coach Mike Malone, originally from New York, he’s not associated with North Carolina and he wasn’t associated with the search until late yesterday. I think it is a good hire as long as the top assistant is a very good former head coach. This also means that Grant McCasland is no longer associated with said coaching search. This is good.
  • LeJuan Watts and Jazz Henderson both announced they would enter the transfer portal. Watts’ entering the portal would seem inevitable after the season he had, which was up and down and not consistent. With Toppin getting injured, I somewhat expected Watts to step up offensively and be a solid option and that never materialized.
  • Henderson was said to be a very vocal leader on the team and I think that will be missed more than maybe your normal walk-on.
  • The players that will be entering the portal is probably not finished. I also heard Level on one of his Locked On Texas Tech episodes and he said to expect some more international flair with Texas Tech and sort of wondered that when Texas Tech hired Rem Bakamus from Arizona last year. Arizona is a pretty international team and Texas Tech really hasn’t signed an impactful international player since David Moretti.
