I’m either going to annoy you or make you happy, but this was from Youssouf’s first scrimmage on Friday night. The woman screaming in the background is my lovely wife, who celebrated her birthday on Sunday.

On the Pitch
Ahead of the torrential rains expected on Sunday from Tropical Storm Lulu Texas Tech and Seattle U played to a 0-0 draw. That’s not to say that they missed all of the rain and weather, but I think they missed the really bad stuff. The ladies will be at home on Sunday, August 23rd to host Boise State.
On the Hardwood
TExas Tech basketball made it official with the signing of big man Bassala Bagayoko.
On the Gridiron
Scrimmage highlights.
Defensive coordinator Shiel Wood with the media scrum from yesterday.
The AP College Football Top 25 dropped yesterday and Texas Tech was picked 12th in a meaningless poll. College Poll Tracker shows how each voter voted, including Texas Tech as high as 5th, thank you Brett McMurphy, and as low as 25th, hello to Jon Wilner.
CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer & John Talty talked with college football insiders to discuss the cost of rosters, including LSU spending close to $50 million with Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, and Texas A&M all buying their with rosters over $40 million. Texas Tech was not listed in the right below $40 million mark and I am sure that talking heads will mention this during the course of every game. The rest of the suspected budgets are behind a paywall so I don’t know where Texas Tech lands.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese writes that Shiel Wood looks more comfortable in front of the press and looks to be prepping to be a head coach this fall:
Of all the talking points discussed on that day, one thing hasn’t escaped my mind: Shiel Wood is prepping to be a head coach, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if it happens this winter.
Should the Red Raiders have the same kind of successful season as 2025, or even improve upon it, and if Wood’s unit lives up to the lofty standard set in his first season, look for him to become a hot name in coaching searches. If it’s not directly in a power-conference setting, Wood would be perfect to take over a Group of 6 program looking to turn a corner.
Mic’d up with defensive line coach Imarjaye Albury, Sr.
