Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese: Kentucky court now rules Texas Tech QB Thomas Castellanos ineligible
Castellanos joined the Red Raiders in August after earning a temporary injunction from a judge in the state of Kentucky. On Friday, the Kentucky Court of Appeals sided with the NCAA in dissolving that TRO, which would make the Florida State transfer ineligible to play.
Ryan Downton, an attorney who represented Castellanos and other athletes in the suit, told On3, “As long as he did not have any professionalism issues, they should certify him as eligible under the NCAA Manual as it exists today. And play him.”
Red Raider Sports’ Lane Selph: Texas Tech QB Thomas Castellanos has new hearing scheduled following Kentucky appeals court ruling
Texas Tech quarterback Thomas Castellanos’s eligibility case is headed back to court next week, following Friday’s ruling by the Kentucky Court of Appeals, that dissolved the injunction that had allowed him to remain eligible for the 2026 season.
According to the Jefferson County Circuit Court docket, a hearing is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9th at 10:30 a.m. in Room 11 in Wells, Levavium II et al. vs. National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese: Preview, score prediction as Texas Tech football visits Colorado

Red Raider Sports’ Mason Turnbow: Joey McGuire talks Texas Tech’s progress, Colorado prep, and more
Joey said that this week of practice has been one of the best weeks of practice he has ever been a part of. The team looks to be locked in ahead of the first conference road game vs. Colorado. Joey mentioned that to get to where they want to go, which is Arlington, they have to flip a switch and be ready for each conference game. He also said he would be surprised if the team doesn’t play well.
The Denver Gazette’s Tyler King: 5 storylines to watch as CU Buffs host Big 12 champs Texas Tech
While we already know wide receiver Danny Scudero won’t return to the CU lineup until after the upcoming bye week, there is a good chance the Buffs will be without a few key defenders this week. Defensive end Lamont Lester, who leads the team in sacks, is listed as doubtful, as are defensive backs Jason Stokes Jr. and Makari Vickers, both of whom have started games this season. Vickers began the season as the starting nickel corner before eventually being replaced by Stokes, who came into the lineup on the outside, moving Boo Carter inside. Stokes had his first career interception last week at Baylor and if both are out Saturday, that could force a young, inexperienced player into a big role.
Denver Post’s Kyle Newman: CU Buffs vs. Texas Tech football: How to watch, keys to the game, odds, staff predictions
CU’s QB situation. Reports indicated coach Deion Sanders would bench Julian Lewis on Saturday in favor of Isaac Wilson, who took over under center in the Buffs’ 23-13 loss at Baylor last week, but Sanders pushed back. Coach Prime was coy in his weekly presser about his decision. Either way, CU needs more of the spark Lewis has provided so far. Beyond the final drive against Georgia Tech and beating up on an outmatched Weber State, Lewis hasn’t lived up to the hype. This could be Wilson’s job to lose now.
Daily Camera’s Eli Whitney: CU Buffs football scouting report vs. Texas Tech
McGuire said the one thing offensive coordinator Brennan Marion has “consistently done is find a way to run the football.” Defensive coordinator Shiel Wood had seen the same thing on film. “They want to run the ball downhill,” he said. “Not only do they want to run the football, but they want to run it straight at you.” Tech had the nation’s top run defense last season, allowing 68.1 rushing yards a game. Through four games this season, it’s allowing 94.8, at 3.4 yards a carry. Houston ran for 175. Colorado is averaging 156.5 rushing yards a game. McGuire noted that Colorado leans on its tight ends in the run game, often using them in the backfield. Tight end Zach Atkins is doubtful, though, and Charlie Williams is questionable. Up front, Wood named Trey White and A.J. Holmes Jr. as his top pass rushers, followed by Adam Trick or LaDamion Guyton. Guyton, a freshman who reclassified and was labeled as a five-star recruit by ESPN, had his first two career sacks against Sam Houston. Tech has 10 sacks on the season.

Lady Raider Basketball: The Auburn transfer is set to join the Lady Raiders for the 2026-27 season
Lady Raider head coach Krista Gerlich has officially announced the signing of Mya Petticord, who will join the program for the 2026-27 season. A 5th year guard, Petticord comes to Tech after playing at Auburn last season, where she started in 28 games and averaged 7.7 points, while leading the Tigers with an 88.6 free-throw percentage.
