If yesterday’s 10 Things seemed a bit rushed, it’s because it was. We had band in Melissa (which is at least an hour away) on Saturday night that pretty well started right as Texas Tech and Colorado kicked off. We didn’t get home until 11-ish and woke up as early as I could to watch and write about the game. Thankful for an off-week and will have something tomorrow or Friday. Maybe. I’m not committing to anything other than at least 1 post a day.
On the Diamond
Fall ball is underway and I don’t remember where we left off in terms of the position previews that Jamie Lent is writing, so I’ll just guess and go from there. Obviously, linking to these stories means that you could hunt around for things that you might want to read.

On the Gridiron
Texas Tech moved up 1 spot in the latest AP Top 25, to No. 11 from No. 12 with Utah right on their heels at No. 12 and BYU at No. 8.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams with his report card from Saturday’s game and here’s his overall grade:
Overall: C
Tech continues to live dangerously, but being challenged into the fourth quarter by Oregon State, Houston and Colorado doesn’t bode well for a team with CFP aspirations. Losing Cameron Dickey — for how long, to be determined — is a significant blow to an offense that tends to come and go.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on things that Texas Tech can work on during the open weekend:
Any offensive improvement
We’ll keep the main thing simple, but there are layers to this. Texas Tech’s offense is a mess right now. It’s not one thing or another, it’s a mix of everything.
Will Hammond trusts only two receivers: Kenny Johnson and Terrance Carter Jr. Mack Leftwich, yes, is calling too many runs to counter that, but the offensive line isn’t good enough in the run game right now, and Quinten Joyner has been too inconsistent when his number is called.
The Athletic’s David Ubben on the Colorado playbook that was found at the team hotel:
“We found a 25 page or so playbook that i would bet large amounts of money on is the actual cu playbook. it’s got opening plays, red zone info, our tendencies, etc. etc.,” read a message board post on RedRaiderSports.com.
The fans were indeed staying at the Buffs’ team hotel, the Omni Interlocken Hotel in Broomfield, Colo., a short drive south of Boulder, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the findings. The poster expressed a desire to get the playbook into the hands of Texas Tech’s coaches, who were staying at the Westin Westminster, about 5 miles south on Highway 36 between Denver and Boulder. But was the info legit? It wouldn’t be known for sure — until Colorado’s opening drive.
I saw this story yesterday morning and thought it was neat and should have mentioned it yesterday, but that’s part of the rush I was feeling.
