On the Gridiron
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on WR Kenny Johnson getting on the same page with QB Thomas Castellanos:
Now that Castellanos is QB1 again against West Virginia, Johnson said there’s less focus on those nuances. Instead, the players have to rely on their own abilities to make a play when the time comes.
“I think now at this point, it’s just kind of just go out there and play ball,” Johnson said. “What I tell (Thomas) all the time, I mean, miscues are going to happen, especially, I mean, we haven’t thrown a ton, so miscues are going to happen. I tell him, just keep trusting and just put that ball in the vicinity. He’s been doing so much better, man. He’s doing great.”
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports that Texas Tech is going to put the new for-profit NIL collective on hold:
He told fans of the “need to create additional NIL opportunities for Coach McGuire, Coach McCasland, Coach Gerlich, Coach Tadlock to really create these above-the-cap opportunities for our student-athletes.”
The new collective idea is on hold, but not dead.
“I wouldn’t say in the future we’ve taken it off the table,” Hocutt said last week, “but it’s not been something we’ve activated on since we talked about it last spring.”
ESPN’s Bill Connelly has the fatal flaw of every team ranked in the College Football Playoffs and I’m just going to put his tweet from the other day right here, basically the committee is giving the SEC 2.5 higher spots than any metric because . . . S E C. That’s it, no other reason.
Talked about my 80% résumé (SOR, Résumé SP+), 20% quality (SP+, FPI) computer rankings mix in the Sunday column. The CFP committee is FAR more skewed toward the SEC than the computers. 2.6 spots per team, on average. Good lord. https://t.co/z3nnXtByR6
